Hemerocallis 'Chicago Apache'
Breeder:James Marsh 1981
J. Marsh is considered a pioneer, a truly significant breeder of the middle years. He has been awarded the American Hemerocallis Society's highest honor for hybridizing: the Bertrand Farr Medal.
He belongs to the famous Chicago group of breeders, like Fay, Hall, Dr Griesbach, H. Fisher, E. Claar, who entered in the history of this flower for having been the first to start a tetrapolid hybridizing program. Their stunning achievements have left a permanent mark on the daylily world.
J. Marsh used the "Chicago" prefix for his new tetraploid cultivars, and went on to produce fine purples and lavenders with dark eye zones and ornamental edging in the same shade.
'Chicago Apache' is one of these , awarded an Honourable mention in 1985. It has rich, velvety, scarlet self, with a silky finish and a lemon green throat. Its flowers have a diameter of 5'' while the hight is about 27''.
