It is a very common , charming, wild plant. There are 29 species of Echium
and they can be found up to 2000 mt.’s altitude.
Its name comes from the greek “echis”, meaning snake, perhaps because its flower has a forked etylo resembling a snake’s tongue.
It bloom from April to September on uncultivated stony ground along roads where it forms dense colonies from intense blue to pink magenta.
It has a high honey producing potential and healing properties.
