In the Greek mithology myrtle was sacred to Venus and it was a symbol of love and poetry. Poets were crowned with myrtle. Present in northern Africa, in western Asia and in Europe, where myrtle is one of the main components of wild vegetation in the Mediterranean area, of which it characterises the most arid aspects. It is a bushy shrub that reaches the eight of 2/3 metres, ever green, aromatic, with a summer flowering. A digestive liquor is made of its berries and by distillating the leaves and young branches you can obtain an essential oil which is used as an antipsetic for illness in the treatment of breathing organs.
