Red poppy fields are getting fewer and fewer in late spring in Sardinia. The ones we can admire, in an enchanting natural landscape, are far away from intensive farming areas wich leave room to the “green desert” where chemical weeding has confined the red of the poppy, the blue of the Echium and the pink of the spontaneous gladiolus only at the edges of the country paths. These beautiful infesting plants, considered harmful to farming, are sadly disappearing, unless their importance is revalued as a landascape colouring component.
Poppy flowers are used in medicine as sedative and expectoreting remedies.
