Clivia miniata
Clìvia, Kafir lily
Amarillidaceae
This perennial herbaceous plant is much appreciated both for its long flowering and for its very beautiful leaves and buds. It is named after a Duchess of Northumberland and a member of the Clive family. The genus Clivia belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and comes from Africa. All of the varieties in commercial use have been derived from the species Clivia miniata of Natal. In Sardinia they grow very well in full ground in coastal regions, provided that they have some shade and that the soil is not too rich in calcium.
