The plant we have always called “calla lily” has now changed its name to Zantedeschia aethiopica in honour of Francesco Zantedeschi, an Italian botanist who lived between the 18th and the 19th century. Of this genus, which was introduced into Europe at the beginning of the 18th century, eight species are known and originate all from Africa.
Its beautiful fruit wich is very seldom seen on the plant becouse flowers are normally cut for decorative use.
